Gutter Cost Calculator

Enter the linear feet of gutter your home needs for a 2026 installation estimate with material and labor separated.

Gutter installation costs about $6 to $12 per linear foot installed in 2026. A typical home needs 150 to 200 feet, putting a full replacement between $1,000 and $2,400. Seamless aluminium is the most common choice.

How much gutter does a house need

Gutters run along the eaves, the sides where the roof slopes down, not the gable ends. On a simple rectangular house that is two runs, so roughly twice the building length. Add any porch, wing or dormer eave. Most homes land between 150 and 200 linear feet.

Downspouts are sized by drainage area: one downspout per 30 to 40 feet of gutter, or per 600 to 800 square feet of roof draining into it. Undersized downspouts are the usual reason a correctly sized gutter still overflows in heavy rain.

Seamless versus sectional

Sectional gutters come in 10-foot lengths joined on site, and every joint is a future leak. Seamless gutters are rolled continuously from coil stock on a truck at your house, so the only joints are at corners and outlets. Seamless costs 20 to 40% more and is worth it, because joints are where essentially all gutter failures start.

Aluminium is standard at 0.027 to 0.032 inch thickness; the thicker gauge resists ladder dents and ice damage noticeably better. Steel is stronger and more expensive, copper is a 50-year architectural choice, and vinyl is a false economy that becomes brittle within a few years in sun or cold.

Frequently asked questions

How much does gutter installation cost in 2026?

About $6 to $12 per linear foot installed for seamless aluminium. A typical 180-foot home runs $1,100 to $2,200 including downspouts.

How much does it cost to replace gutters?

Replacement runs $1,000 to $2,400 for an average home. Removal and disposal of the old gutters adds $0.50 to $1.00 per foot.

Are seamless gutters worth it?

Yes. Sectional gutters leak at every joint eventually, and seamless has joints only at corners and outlets. The 20 to 40% premium buys the elimination of the most common failure point.

How many downspouts do I need?

One per 30 to 40 feet of gutter run, or one per 600 to 800 square feet of roof draining into that run. Most homes need four to six.

Are gutter guards worth the cost?

They run $6 to $13 per foot installed. Under heavy tree cover they pay for themselves in avoided cleanings; on a house with no overhanging trees they rarely do. Micro-mesh performs best and costs most.
